Tasks that I did today:
- My task for today was to create an event flyer to invite the staff that worked at Huddersfood to come and celebrate the team winning an award at the competition known as the TUCO Awards. This is a proud achievement for the Huddersfood staff as they put lots of hard work into the University to make the Catering Services great and a good experience for students whilst attending the University to study.
- However, before I started to create the design I had to look at inspiration. Where I used sites like Pinterest and Google Images, this was so I was able to look and work out how I wanted to present the celebration on the flyer design to the staff.
- Once I had looked at some inspiration for the event flyer to showcase the celebration to the staff for winning their award. I started to roughly think about how I would like the design to be laid out and presented, I needed to make sure that the design was presentable so that the information on the design would be shown in a professional manner that the information could be understood easily by the target audience that the design was aiming at which were the staff at Huddersfood.
- After I had thought about my layout, I then decided to look into font types to use for my design where I finally decided on using two completely different styles. The first one I used for one of the words on the event flyer design was called King Basil Lite, I thought that this font style was very fancy, but also quite bold and easy to read. I felt that this font style would be easy to grab the attention of the staff that the design would be aiming at.
- The other font type I have used for the design was completely different to the first font type, as this font type was simple but bold and a lot more visible and easy to read and see. The font type was known as Bebas Neue. When choosing the font types to use for the design I had to make sure that these were commercially and personally free to use.
- The programme that I used to create this flyer design was Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign, however I am most in the Adobe Illustrator programme.
- The colour scheme that I used for the design was a Grey colour and White. I used the Grey colour for the solid box at the top of my flyer design and the rest of the text, as I had used a photograph for the background of the flyer design. I decided to use a photograph for the background to help advertise the celebration event for the staff. When using the photograph, I had to make sure that I was allowed to use it for my design by making sure that it was commercially free to use for my design.
- I used the White colour for the text that was displayed in the Grey box at the top of my design, I decided to make this text a different colour to the text on the photograph, as it was more like a title and would also stand out better on the Grey box than the photograph. The Grey text displayed on the photograph is to show the main information telling the staff about what is being advertised.
- Whilst creating my flyer design I had to experiment with different photographs until I found the most suitable photograph to use for the design.
- I noticed that whilst I was creating this design I had to fade out the photograph that I was going to use for my piece because it was hard to read the text and information that I had displayed on the design. Another thing that I decided to add to the poster design was a drop shadow on the text to make the text look like it has a 3D effect, once I had done this I found that it was a lot easier to read the text on the flyer that I had created.
- My final task for the day was to mess around with the layout of the flyer design because I felt that the information on the design was presented in a professional way, as the text and logos looked all cluttered on the design that I had created.
My Final Design:
Tuesday 22nd August 2017
Tasks that I did today:
- Today I spent the day designing a creative piece of design work that explains to people how we make our Plum Chutney and the process in which is used to do this. To show the process of the Plum Chutney being made I was given photographs to use within my design to evidence the process of this.
- Me and Sarah decided that the design would look best at a A3 Size where I would be able to look at using polaroid templates to display the photographs in an artistic way. I was then told that I should add text underneath the polaroids to explain which part of the process was being shown in the photographs.
- I thought that adding the text to the design would allow it to be easier to follow for people, I also thought about adding arrows on the design to help guide people through the process of how we make Plum Chutney.
- The programme that I decided to use for this design was Adobe Illustrator, as I thought I was the most competent in using the programme and I felt that the type of design I wanted to create was best suited to this programme.
- I decided to use a colour scheme of two different Oranges, one being light and the other being bright. The colour in which I decided to use for the background was the Light Orange so that it was a basic and simple, as it wasn't too overpowering but still an eye-catching colour. This was because I didn't want people or the target audience to be put off looking at the design and not taking an interest.
- I used the Bright Orange colour for the lines at the bottom and top of the design, which created a basic boarder. I also used this colour for the arrows on my design so that it would stand out from the Light Orange colour that I had used for my background colour.
- I used a White colour for the polaroid picture designs, as I didn't want these to be the same colour as the arrows, but it still connect well with the design that I had created for the process of making Plum Chutney. I decided to use White because it allowed the polaroid designs to stand out on the design I had created.
- I then moved onto choosing a specific font type to use for my design, the font type I decided to use for the design was Simplifica, as I thought that this was the best font type to use as it was simple, not too fancy and was easy to read and see without any complications.
- I had to make sure that the colour of the font was bold and stood out, so I decided to use the colour Black because it wouldn't cause any problems when trying to read the information on the design.

Tasks that I did today:
- Today I had to make some specific changes to the designs that I had already created for the events that are taking place in September. This is so that I could finalise all of the designs, so that they would be ready to send off to the internal marketing team to be put on the internal intranet for the staff, students and the University to advertise the events that the Huddersfood team will be hosting.
Burrito Cantina - Burrito Challenge Poster
- I had to add the correct information to the Burrito Challenge poster, by making sure that the location of the challenge was Student Central, Level 4 and not Students Union, Level 5. I had to add to the poster design something along the lines of "Can you beat the Burrito in under 2 minutes?".
Huddersfood Food festival Poster
- For this I had to change some of the names and positioning of this, so that they connected together in a professional way. I also had to make sure that I spell checked the design, so that there weren't any mistakes on the poster design.
Pearls Bubble Tea
- For this, I had to make a few adjustments to the design starting with adding a letter "S" onto the word Pearl to make it Pearls. This would then make it the correct name of the company that was coming to the University in September.
- I had to take off the word sampling as the company would be selling their products rather than doing a sampling session. Instead of this I had to write "Come and treat yourself to a refreshing tea with fantastic flavourings".
- I also had to add the Huddersfood logo to the bottom right-hand corner of the design, another thing that I had to add to the design was the date in which the event would be taking place in September.
Changes to the Pearls Bubble Tea Text:
- From - Pearls Bubble Tea are a hot and cold tea-based drink, infused with fantastic flavourings. Come and try the amazing samples at the Pizza Bar, normally based at the Charles Sikes Building.
- To - Pearls Bubble Tea are a hot and cold tea-based drink, infused with fantastic flavourings. Come and treat yourself to a refreshing tea at Neo Pizza in Student Central.
Matthew Algie
- For the Matthew Algie design I had to change the wording of the "their fresh and tasty coffee" to "freshly ground coffee".
- I also had to add the dates that the company would be attending the University in September which are the 13th and 25th September 2017.
- Another thing that I had to do for this design was to add the Huddersfood logo in the bottom right-hand corner of the design and a drop shadow to the logo using multiply and changing the opacity from 100% to 60%.
- The final thing that I had to do for this design was to change the opacity of the background from 100% to 80%.
Changes to the Matthew Algie Text:
- From - Matthew Algie will be here from Wednesday 13th September, where you can taste some of their fresh and tasty coffee samples.
- To - Matthew Algie will be here on Wednesday 13th September, where you can taste some of their freshly ground coffee.
Changes to the King Asia Text:
- From - King Asia will be here to showcase their produces that they produce. Come along and take a look and see what they have to offer.
- To - King Asia will be here to showcase their products. Come along and taste their Oriental dishes including Noodles, Stir-fry's and spicy Oriental Cuisine.
International Week
- For this design I had to change the font type of the title and the date, so that the text was a lot more visible and bold. The font type I decided to use for this design was Foco Black, where I used two different font sizes 60 and 30.
- I also added the Huddersfood logo to the design in the bottom right-hand corner of the design, so that this would be consistent with the other designs that I have created for the International Week.
- At the left-hand side of the design I decided to place the social media names of the pages we have on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Thursday 24th August 2017
Tasks that I did today:
- Today I spent the day changing the International Week Poster design that I had created to a completely new design, as I had a few complications with the design I had previously come up with.
- I really liked the design that I had created, however I was told that my design that I had created was too overwhelming and didn't work. This was because the colours that I had chosen to use for the design was a little bright as it caused quite a few problems when I was trying to read the text on the poster.
- After I had done this and followed my instructions on how they would like the Poster to be presented and how they would like the poster to be advertised for International Week.
- It was then ready to be placed out in the University for advertisement to promote the International Week that was taking place between Monday 11th September to Friday 15th September.
- Even though I didn't like my new design I decided that he other design that I had previously created for this event will be part of my portfolio piece that I am going to be creating over the next year. This is because I think that this design looks a lot more tidy, professional and more presentable than the other design that I created.
- Although, if I have time over the next year I am going to improve this poster design in my own design to make it more presentable and attractive than the ones that I have currently created.

Tasks that I did today:
- Today I sent all of my work to the Internal Marketing team ready for them to place on the staff and student intranet to promote the events that the Huddersfood Team will be hosting in September to staff and students.
- Before I was able to send off all of my designs I needed to change all of the sizing dimensions, so that the designs I had created fitted the guidelines for the Internal Marketing and the Twitter Posts.
- Once I had done this I spent the rest of the day coming up with ideas for the Napkin Display signs that were located at the outlets around the University campus, whilst I was completing this task I had to copy several people's passports from the student interviews using the photocopier and scanner settings on the printer in the office.
My final designs I sent to the Internal Marketing team:
