Tasks that I did today:
- Whilst on placement today, I decided to focus on the task of creating a new design for the Napkin Display holders as these designs needed updating from the previous time that these were done.
- After considering my ideas for the Napkin Displays which were:
- Information about each unit
- Inspirational Quotes
- The reusable cups that can be purchased at the Starbucks outlets.
- The idea in which I decided to push forward further was the design that included all of the information about each outlet across the University Campus. My idea that I wanted to take forward was to display the information about all the outlets on one design explaining what outlets we have across campus. Where their located, what they serve and also the times in which these outlets open from.
- The programme in which I used to create this design was Adobe InDesign, as this is the best programme to use to present and create my design in a professional and structured way that would catch the attention of the target audience easily.
- The font type that I decided to use for my design was both Bebas Neue Bold and Foco Regular and Bold. I chose these font types because it was easy to see and read, but they were also very bold. Most importantly the font types were both commercially and personally free to use, which meant that I had the rights to use these font types on the design in which I was creating for the Napkin Display holders.
- For the main header I had to use several different sizes for the font type, so that it looked presentable and fit across the paper. The font size that I used for the word 'Catering' was 125pt, so this would allow the word to fit across the size of the paper on my screen.
- Underneath this I then used the font size 25pt for the wording 'Outlets Across Campus'. I then added two lines either side of this to add an effect to the design.
- The font size I used for all the names of the Catering Outlets across campus was 10pt, where I used the font type Foco Bold, because it would stand out from the rest of the information and display the name of the Outlet. For all of the information I used the same font type but a Regular thickness, but a different size which was 8pt.
- Here was my final design that I created for the Napkin Display holders. I found that the design was laid out professionally and presentably, so that the target audience would be able to see and read the design easily, which is very important when creating the design for the holders.

Tasks that I did today:
- Today at placement I received the Banners that I had sent off to the printers which were both the Street food and BBQ Designs.
- However, when we received this back we worked out that these Banners were going to be too small for the table, so these Banners wouldn't work for the event that we would be hosting. After we had discussed that the Banner sizing was too small I had to re-design the banners to the correct sizing which were 1m x 2m.
- I had to make sure that the PVC Banner design size had a 10mm bleed which made the sizing of the design 1010mm x 2010mm and the resolution of the design was 72dpi, the colour of the design was in a CMYK format. When changing the sizing of the design I noticed that the colour that I had chosen for the background wasn't as bright as I had thought it was going to be when printed. After I had noticed this I had to make some modifications to this, so that it would be brighter when printed.
- The colour in which I used for the background before I changed the colour of this was:
- The colour in which I used for the background after I changed the colour of this was:
- Another thing that I had to adjust were the flags on the design to make sure that the curved line was straight towards the edges. This was because the previous printed Banners that I had received were bent towards the edge which made the design look unprofessional and very messy, which wasn't the look that I was looking for.
- The elements and features I had to adjust on my design was the Bunting, the Flag line, Rectangle for the logo design and the rectangle box for the name of the event. I had to make sure that I corrected the sizing of these elements to fit within the design and make sure that the colouring of the design was bright and vibrant ready to print and that the font type I used for the design worked and was easy to see and read.
- I also had to make sure that the Huddersfood logo was all White for the logo to stand out on the Yellow rectangle that I had created.
- The colour of the bunting:
- The colour of the rectangle to display the logo design and the name of the event:
- The colour of the Huddersfood logo:
- The font type that I used for the name of the event was Cast Iron Condensed. The colour of the font type I chose to use for this was White, however I had to use the pen tool to draw around the font type to make the text larger than it was before to fit the design I had created. For the Street Food Banner design, it should be the same as the BBQ design, but the name of the event should be Street Food rather than BBQ. Again, I had to use the pen tool rather than the text tool to make this larger on the design.
- Once I had done this I started to look at creating designs for the TV Screens in Student Central, Level 4 for the week before and after Fresher's. I decided to create a design for the landscape screen that would promote the Burrito Challenge event by creating the same design in which I had created for the Portrait Screen but in a Landscape Orientation.
- After I had created the basic structure for this I was then able to add the logo of the Burrito Cantina and Slogan which was a Taste of Mexico. Once I had done this I then added the Huddersfood logo to the Landscape design in the bottom right-hand corner.
- The font type that I used for this design was JI Burrito, which I found was commercially free to use for this design. Once I had found the font type that I wanted to use I was able to add all the information that needed to be presented on the design and the TV Screen.
- Another thing that I added to the design was Social Media pages onto the page design, so people can see what is happening via our social media pages when the event is taking place.
- The final thing that I did today was paint a blackboard at the Mill Cafe using blackboard paint which I purchased from Wilkinson's. This was used to paint over the existing stuff that was already written on the blackboard.

Tasks that I did today:
- At placement today, I received an email from the Internal Marketing Team asking me to change the dimensions of the design that I had sent them for the Internal Marketing Team asking me to change the dimensions of the designs that I had sent them for the Internal Marketing page to advertise the Huddersfood events to the student and staff at the University.
- The sizes in which I need to make my designs were 1920px x 1080px or 1080px x 1920px for the Internal Marketing page and 1024px x 512px or 512px x 1024px for the Twitter Posts. The designs that I needed to correct were:
- Burrito Challenge
- Huddersfood Food Festival
- International Week
- King Asia
- Pearls Bubble Tea
- Matthew Algie
- Pearls Bubble Tea
- Matthew Algie
- After I had done this I then had to print out the designs for the company Big Al's who had sent us some promotional marketing designs of their products to put up at the Mill Cafe on the Blackboard which I had painted.
- I needed to make sure whilst doing this that I printed out X2 copies of each design and make sure that there laminated. This was the first time I had used a laminator, but once I had been shown I got the hang of it and found it very easy to use and pick up.
- I then moved onto look at the No.10 Menus for the Breakfast, Lunch and Drinks, where I needed to look more at the colour schemes, font types and layouts to create a design that would be bright and eye-catching, easy to see and read by the staff and students at the University.
- I wanted to make the design look presentable and professional, so that the target audience wouldn't be too complicated to understand.
- The font types that I considered to use for the menu designs were Foco (Black, Bold or Regular) and Bebas Neue.
- I also decided to use a yellow colour scheme so that it wasn't too bright and would distract the attention or confuse the students and staff when looking at the design.
- After I had created this design I decided to look at a new colour scheme to use for the menu because I felt as though the yellow background wasn't working for the menu at all.
- I decided to look at the colour of the outlet which was a teal shade of blue. Although I liked the previous colour scheme that I had used for the menu, I didn't think the design looked exciting and bright.
- So, I decided to look at maybe linking in the colours of the company known as Phat Pasty which would start to be served at that unit when it opens back up in September. I also considered to look at sing a gradient to create colour scheme Blue to Light Green to Beige then Orange to Red.
- The final thing that I did today was to show the people from the company Big Al's where the brand will be being based in September which is at the Mill Cafe. Another thing that I did then was take photographs of the outlet called Espresso Deli @ Weavers of the outlet, seating area and signs to show where the new signage will be going and displayed.
