Week Four

Monday 14th August 2017

Tasks I did today:
  • Today I spent the day editing the photographs that I had taken from the Wedding on Saturday of the Function, the Setup, the Drinks Reception and of the Bride and Groom. When editing my photographs, I had to choose the best photographs that I had taken to enable me to show the most professional and well produced photographs of the wedding function.
  • The photographs that I had taken of the wedding were going to be used to promote the Huddersfood Team's brand in a very different way to the outlets in which they have around the University Campus. This is because it will show the fantastic event in which the Huddersfood Team brand held and hosted at the university, not only that they will be used to promote the Huddersfood Team brand and by showing to people what they produce at various events and functions.
  • The programme in which I used to edit the photographs of the function was Adobe Lightroom, I thought that this would be the best programme to use to get the best results of the photographs that I had taken.
  • The tools that I used to edit my photographs were:
  • Exposure
  • Contrast
  • Whites
  • Blacks
  • Clarity
  • Sharpening - Amount
  • Noise Reduction - Luminance & Detail
  • Below are some of the photographs that I had taken at the wedding before and after they had been edited in Lightroom to make them look better and at a more professional standard.

  • Once I had edited the final photographs that I wanted to use to promote the function and Huddersfood on our Social Media sites. I was then able to finish off my animation for the Burrito Challenge when I had finalised the animation, I found that the animation I had created worked very well overall.
  • I thought that the design I had created was very colourful and would catch the attention of the target audience very easily. My target audience for this animation was students and staff.
  • Even though I couldn't find any mariachi music that was commercially free to use for my animation, I decided to use some music from Ben Sound that is commercially free to use at all times. I found that this lightened my animation up even more because it is quite cheerful music in which I decided to use.

Tasks I did today:
  • At placement, today I had a meeting with Sam in the morning where we discussed about changing the Menu designs at No.10 as they were old and needed to be updated. I felt that they weren't very eye-catching or appealing to the students or staff. I wanted to make them more eye-catching, so that they would be noticed a lot more.
  • I was told to look at the company known as Bewleys to see what the company would be offering us and how we would advertise this at No.10. I was also told to start looking at new designs for the Napkin Displays, the Starbucks Menu sign for Cafe Central and the signs that will be displayed in the A0 sign boards outside that are located around the University Campus.

  • For the design of my No.10 menu I decided to design an Illustration of the No.10 front door at Downing Street in London where I took at of the No.10 Downing Street door from google for inspiration  when creating my Illustration design which I decided to create in the programme Adobe Illustrator.
  • To create the Illustration of the door I used the Pen tool to create the basic shape, structure of the design, however I also used the pen tool to add a lot more detail to the design so that the Illustration would look a lot more realistic.
  • I also used the colour scheme that would match the realistic door so that the Illustration would be a representation of the design but in an Illustrative style.

  • We agreed that I should have the menus for No.10 done by the 11th September, so that they were ready for the opening day and the outlets re-opening as students would start coming back the following week. I was also told to look at the colours of the Phat Pasty company as this brand would be moving over to No.10 in the Harold Wilson Building.

Wednesday 16th August 2017

Tasks I did today:
  • Today I found out that there were four new changes to the campus buildings around the University where I had to change these names on the campus map, so that this would promote where the outlets are located. The changes that I had to make were:
  • Canalside East to the Haslett Building (HA)
  • Canalside West to the Sparck Jones Building (SJ)
  • Ramsden Workshop to the Cockcroft Building (CO)
  • Business School to the Charles Sikes Building (CS)
  • I also decided to post another selection of the wedding photography that I had taken on our social media pages like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to show what amazing work the Huddersfood Team did for the function and wedding.
  • The post that I wrote was:
"Last weekend we hosted our very first wedding reception/dinner located in our Creative Arts Building at the University of Huddersfield. Thank you to the staff for their hard work, here is a few photographs from the weekend. More to come soon."
  • The photographs that I used:

  • I also decided to post another post on Instagram later on of the Wedding Cake where the description of the Instagram Post was:
"Wedding Cake"
  • The photographs that I used:

  •  After I had done this I started to look for inspiration for the menu at No.10 for a coffee sign that we could put on the wall at the Outlet to promote the prices of the coffee at No.10.
  • I then planned what I needed to do for the rest of the day and tomorrow, which was to start looking at inspiration for coffee logos and coffee signs. The interior of coffee shops and how we can apply this to the No.10 Outlet.
  • Another task that I had to complete tomorrow was to replicate the design for the Burrito Challenge flyer using Adobe Photoshop, however whilst doing this I needed to make sure that I changed the date of this so that the correct dates of the event were shown on the flyer design.
  • I did this task so at a future date I would be able to re-create a brand-new design for the Burrito Challenge that would be different to the existing one.

Thursday 17th August 2017

Tasks I did today:
  • Before starting my tasks today, I decided to look into the companies that will be taking part in the Huddersfood Food Festival, where I looked at the company known as Big Al's that sells products like: Burgers, Sandwiches, Pizza Twists and Breakfast Products. I found that the products they sold were interesting and looked very nice.
  • Today I started to think about what I needed to produce for the International Week, which is taking place between the Monday 11th September and Friday 15th September 2017. For this I needed to start looking at inspiration for the companies that would be here throughout that week and start to look at how I could promote this event to students to show what there is to offer at the University throughout the week.
  • I was told that I needed to make separate poster designs that would advertise all the companies that would be here that week. The companies that I found out that would defiantly be attending the International Week were Pearls Bubble Tea who will be located on the Neo Pizza and Pasta Outlet, King Asia who will be working at the Noodle Bar and Matthew Algie who will be here on Wednesday 13th September 2017.
  • I started out this task by looking into designs that I could use for inspiration when creating my own design.
  • For the King Asia design, I decided to use a commercially free photograph of some stir-fry to represent the Oriental Express. I thought that the use of food photography would attract more people than a piece of design work that was text related. The sire that I used to find a photograph of food was a website called Unsplash, which is a site that you can find and use commercially free photographs in your work. This is one of the best sites to use until I build a portfolio of the photographs myself that I can use in the future for my design and of the food that is cooked at the University and the Outlets.
  • Once I had found the correct photograph that I wanted to use for this I then started to add the information onto the design to promote the event that would be taking place.
  • The font style that I used for this design was known as Foco, I thought that this font style was easy to read and also connected with the University as this is the font style that they use for their branding and marketing materials.

  • The company that I decided to look at creating a design for next was Pearls Bubble Tea who sell refreshing tea with fantastic infused flavours. I decided to use an existing photograph from their website as it contained the logo of the company. This would allow me to advertise the correct company that would be attending that week.
  • Again, I decided to use the same font style known as Foco, so that this would fit within the branding of the University. I also had to make sure that font style was readable on the design that I created.
  • For this design, I had to change the colour of the font style form White to Black to make this more readable and wouldn't cause any problems to the target audience that I would be aiming the design at which would be Students and Staff.

  • The final company that I created a design for was called Matthew Algie who are a Coffee Company that produces freshly ground coffee. Again, I decided to use an existing photograph with their branding to help me promote them as a brand.
  • Once again, I used the font style Foco, so that it would fit within the University Branding. I also found that this font style was simple and easy to see and read, which allows the design to not be overcomplicated for the students and staff that this design would be aiming towards.
  • For this design, I had to again make sure that the font style was visible. This was because I had to change the colour of the text from Black to White, as the text was too dark and blended into the photograph that I had used, which made it a lot harder to read than the White text.

  • The final task I did today was upload some more photographs that I had taken at the wedding reception onto Instagram.
  • The post that I wrote was:
"Wedding Reception"
  •  The photographs that I used:

Friday 18th August 2017

Tasks I did today:
  • The first thing that I did today was to complete my writing descriptions for the designs that I had created and were going to be sent off to marketing to be posted on the Internal Marketing page, so that the designs would be posted by the Internal Marketing Team in which Staff and Students would be able to see what events the Huddersfood Team would be hosting throughout September. The deadline for this is Friday 25th August 2017.
  • After this I then posted my Pearls Bubble Tea design on Social Media to show that we are promoting the events that will be taking place throughout International Week.
  • The post for the Pearls Bubble Tea read:
"Next week is our International Week, where we have different companies coming to our University Campus. One of those is Pearls Bubble Tea who will be here all week, they will be located in Neo Pizza of Student Central on Level 4. So, come and treat yourself to a refreshing tea with fantastic infused flavourings"
  • Once I had done this I then started to create the design for the International Week to show all the companies that would be attending within this week and who I would need promote on my design.
  • I really liked the design that I produced, as I felt that it worked well with the idea of International Week, as I decided to use Illustrations of the world that I had previously created for the International Kitchen menu. I used these Illustrations because I thought it would work well with the International Features to represent all the countries in the world at International Week.
  • I think that the colour scheme I decided o use for the design was very bold and colourful, which made the design brighter and more vibrant so that it could be seen and easily recognised.
  • I also had to make sure that the font style I used for the design was visible and easy to see and read because I didn't want the design to be too complicated that this would put off the target audience that I had created the design for.

  • My final task of the day was to change one of my designs that I had created for the TV Screen, this was because some of the names of the buildings around the University campus had changed. I had to make sure that the correct information was being shown on the TV Screens in the Student Central area, so that there would be no confusion. This task was very simple and easy to complete.
  • Amendments
  • The Mill Cafe's location from Canalside East, Level 2 to the Haslett Building, Level 2.
  • Espresso Deli @ Weavers location from Canalside West, Ground Floor to the Sparck Jones Building, Ground Floor.
  • The Street Cafe's location from the Business School, Level 1 to Charles Sikes Building, Level 1.
